ABOUT ME

Hello, my name is Antonia Higgins.

I'm a person-centred counsellor, offering face-to-face and online video counselling from my therapy room in central Falkirk.

I am a qualified counsellor and Registered Member of BACP. I work individually with adults of all genders to improve their mental health and emotional wellbeing by building self-esteem and improving personal boundaries. I am also a relationship counsellor, offering a space for small groups of two or more people to work through issues in their relationships that are causing distress or misunderstanding.

My own life-changing experiences of being a client drew me to retrain as a counsellor. I experienced for myself the transformational benefits of counselling and the huge changes it can make to self-esteem, confidence and self-acceptance. I believe that it is one of the healthiest ways to face life's issues and work through them. I call counselling 'the ultimate form of selfcare', and I am passionate about using it to help others to help themselves.

Prior to my training I had a varied career in the private sector and Higher Education which included hospitality, journalism, clerical, administrative and PA roles, office management, publishing and running an online bookshop.

During my training I worked with adult survivors of childhood abuse and victims of domestic abuse for two local charities. Now in private practice, I continue my work with adults individually as well as working with young people, and working couples and small groups for relationship counselling. I bring all my skills and experience to Tranquillo Counselling and strive to always offer clients a warm, safe, welcoming and non-judgemental therapeutic space where they can explore their thoughts, worries and fears.

I'm interested in positive psychology and how it can improve self-esteem and lead to post-traumatic growth. This fit well with my overall approach. I'm also interested in the use of writing in therapy as a tool to expand on your work in the therapy room and give you different ways of exploring what is important to you.
